Little Steve & the Big Beat
Little Steve & the Big Beat are a high-energy Rhythm & Blues outfit. They take the blues, add some soul and play it the way they feel it is supposed to be played; fiery guitar playing and strong vocals on top of a solid rhythm section. All the while the horns add a groove that will get your hands clapping and feet moving! Little Steve & the Big Beat stay true to tradition while not merely imitating, but adding their own voice to this expressive style of music.

Our old website got hacked so I put together a new one like crazy! It's goodbye wordpress and back to weebly now. That is why you see a lot of old blog posts from years ago and the more recent ones are missing.
Let me take this opportunity to let you know that Martijn officially left the band. He will be focussing more on his own project Tinez Roots Club and we wish him all the best with that. We're thankful that we found an excellent replacement by the like of Thomas Streutgers! We're happy to start touring France with him next week! And whenever Thomas can't make it for a gig due to his busy schedule, Martijn is ready to step in and play some tenor sax with us again so you will still see him with us sometimes. What's better than 1 tenor sax player? That's right... 2 tenor sax players!
I mentioned we will be touring France next week.. we have a cool little 'Tour de France' lined up from 6 - 9 February. Unfortunately for our French fans these are all private gigs.
We got some more cool gigs lined up for later this year....but it's still confidential and I'm not allowed to say anything about it yet. So keep an eye on the website!
And hey... word is going around that I'm going to release a Guitar course on Truefire.com later this year..! And you know what they say, where there's smoke there's fire!
All the best,
2016 is already here. Time sure flies! We hope it still counts when we send you a belated Happy New Year!
What's coming up for the new year? We're excited to tell you about two tours we're working on. We're going to tour Germany end of March/early April and we're working on a UK tour for November. But before that all happens we'll be playing in Assen on the 30th of January. Check the gigs page for all details.
Voting has closed for the Dutch Blues Awards. No matter who wins, we want to thank everybody for voting.
Have a good one this year!
Last month we played for a great crowd of UK blues-cruisers, who attended P&O's first blues cruise. Our lunchtime gig was held ashore in Amsterdam. Blues Matters magazine also attended our gig and wrote a fine review of the whole cruise. Here's the part about our gig:
"Little Stevie & the Big Beat proved a real coup - whilst virtually unknown in the UK they are highly thought of in the Netherlands (nominated for 'Best Band', 'Best Vocalist' and 'Best Drummer' in this year's Dutch Blues Awards). Little Stevie van der Nat leads the band with fine vocals and clean, ringing lead guitar. A rhythm section of 'Bird' Stevens on bass and the youthful Jody van Ooijen on drums provide a perfect foundation for the band's 50s/60s rhythm and blues. What sets this quintet apart though, is the wonderful brass section of Martijn van Toor on tenor and Evert Hoedt on bariton saxes. The UK contingent was quick to show its appreciation and their warm applause clearly inspired the band to even greater heights. Wilbert Harrison's Kansas City got the breakneck treatment whilst the languorous mood of Magic Sam's Easy Baby was replicated in a fine vocal performance. Chuck Willis' influence is sadly overlooked today by many but this band made amends with their take on his classic, oft-recorded, Feel So Bad.
Their own compositions, too, add to the oeuvre. Their 2014 single Brand New Man rocks along fueled by incessant horn-riffing and a soaring vocal from Stevie - whose phrasing and command of idiomatic English would shame many UK vocalists. Plans are advanced to bring this outstanding outfit across the water; see them and you'll understand what the stalwart cruisers drinking at the Waterhole were making such a fuss about!"
Much to our pleasant surprise we learned we are nominated for the Dutch Blues Awards 2015! Even more surprised were we when we figured we have 3 nominations; one each for Best Band, Best Vocalist and Best Drummer.
